Why is no gas coming to my gas fire?

I have a log effect gas fire installed in my fireplace. It's called a slab 22. I haven't used it all summer and when I try to turn it on there is no gas coming to it. The gas tap is turned on but no gas comes to the fire. Is there something I can do to rectify this?
