OMG...I shaved my sideburns!?

I used one of those eyebrow trimmers on my sideburns and it looked funky so I followed with Nair and NOW I'm reading both are BAD ideas. I've read that I am going to grow a beard now? I'm very gullible...so is this true??? Help, what should I do now? Will they look normal once they grow back?
