Is an Attorney General required to give tax payers information regarding laws that effect their work?

I am trying to conduct a canvas in the state of Michigan. I represent a non-profit organization. We are doing community outreach and also planning on soliciting some small donations from our neighbors. I have e-mailed our attorney general to determine the legality of solicitations and the staff has not e-mailed back.
