98 honda civic Ex the swith Key doest not came out?

I ume the car has an automatic trans. If this is the case, the key will not come out unless the shift lever position is in Park or Neutral. uming the lever is in the right (P or N) position, the position (called Neutral Safety Switch) sensor indicates otherwise. When the battery is disconnected, they switch is open, and lever position makes no difference - the system is dead, and therefore is not aware of it which allows the key to be removed.
